Summer 2024

Hi!

It's been a while since I created a newsletter. I've been relying heavily on our Facebook group, which excludes those who are not on Facebook or left the platform. I apologize for that and now let's get started.

Right Hand Pointing

This summer we celebrate our 20th year of publication.  I'll just say that being at the helm has enriched my life.

20th Anniversary Issue

I am so pleased to present the 20th Anniversary issue or Right Hand Pointing, now available on the World Wide Web. This issue features new and previously published works by some of our most faithful contributors. In addition, we suspend our usual rule and offer work by many on our editorial team at Ambidextrous Bloodhound.

In this issue: Allan Peterson, Annie Stenzel, Bill McCloud, Brad Rose, Clare Rolens, Katherine DiBella Seluja, Corey Mesler, Dale Wisely, Elizabeth McMunn-Tetangco, Eric Burke, F.J. Bergmann, John Sharp, Howie Good, J. I. Kleinberg, John Grey, Jordan Smith, Ken Chau, Larry D. Thomas, Laura M Kaminski, Lynn Strongin, Mark Cunningham, Mark Danowsky, Meg Pokrass, Natalie Wolf & Katherine Schmidt, Steve Klepetar, Tina Carlson, Tom Fugalli, and Wendy Taylor Carlisle.

Thanks to all!

Our twice-a-year print journal of haiku & senryu just closed for submissions for the November issue. We hope to have a first pass completed on the 675 poems received for that issue. We publish only 44 poems per issue! Our April issue in on sale via KDP. Click on the image to get there.

We'll read in January for the spring issue.

I recently started a new experimental journal: The Scarred Tree: Poetry and Moral Injury. It is part of a capstone project I did on the way to earning my certification in the study of Moral Injury. I'm randomly posting poems there submitted to the project. Visit us and see what you think. Sample poem to the right.

The Chained Woman

A case of human trafficking and ill-treatment exposed to light in 2022

What must be chained
to the neck & locked
in that dirty hut
are devils of cruelty,
barren fields of moral illiteracy,
cold faces of idiocy,
& dumb heads of vacuity
that show human apathy
in a land with a long history
of civilization.

A few more things. We published a limited edition of a chapbook

by our own F. J. Bergmann, The Book of Burning. 29 poems, 36 pages, each with a unique cover by yours truly. The covers look like they were done by a gifted 9-year-old. But the dang poems are fantastic. I mean fantastic. We have only a few copies and so be in touch with me if you want one.

Okay, this has gone on quite long enough. Just let me end by thanking our team of editors who are incredibly devoted, talented, NICE people to work with.

We lost our beloved colleague Mike James to cancer. We miss him.

Thank you all for your support,

Dale

Count out the steps to the closest source of light

Save all the letters you receive, let them be a constant,

a journal of all that you know.

Read the comics while in the bathtub.

Be both ordinary & mystic.
