5 Points Starbucks

while Andy drawls, reminding me

how easily he thinks I’m mesmerized

while alternating between

slow drags from his cigarette

& casual sips from his latte

I’m distracted by a night moth

circling a streetlamp : translucent wings

racing electron trails around a bulb of light,

white-hot, clouded in

city dust filaments

like smoke stirring the air

or like a latte dashed with pumpkin spice

on a sputtering summer-autumn night
